Thrust Joint Manipulation Part 4

This two-day certification course will include 50% comprehensive review and 50% comprehensive testing. Testing will cover all practical and didactic portions of the prior thrust joint manipulation (TJM) series. The primary focus will be on the psychomotor and examination skills needed to safely and effectively deliver TJM to all diarthrodial and select synarthrodial joints. Also included will be testing on the mechanisms, safety, and efficacy of TJM for various neuromusculoskeletal conditions. Successful applicants will be able to use the Cert. TJM designation as part of their education background.

Course Objectives

At the completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate mastery of TJM techniques for all diarthrodial and select synarthrodial joints of the human skeleton.
  2. Demonstrate, given a patient case scenario, practical application of clinical examination techniques to confirm/refute the appropriateness of spinal manipulation or non-vertebral TJM for neuromusculoskeletal conditions.
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of the biomechanical and epidemiological literature regarding the relationship between cervical spine manipulation and cervical artery dissection.
  4. Demonstrate an understanding of the potential mechanisms by which TJM improves neuromusculoskeletal pain.
  5. Demonstrate an understanding of the literature regarding the efficacy of spinal manipulation or non-vertebral TJM for various neuromusculoskeletal conditions.
  6. Demonstrate knowledge of the underlying kinetic/kinematic findings in the application of TJM to various skeletal segments.
  7. Demonstrate an understanding of the literature regarding the audible cavitation of TJM.
  8. Demonstrate knowledge of the physiological and accessory levers used in the application of spinal manipulation or non-vertebral TJM.
  9. Demonstrate knowledge of safety considerations that are important in employing TJM for various neuromusculoskeletal conditions.
